About Plein Air

I love the attitudes of the early plein air (French for 'open air') artists of the late 1800's, Their break from indoor, formal settings to outdoor, natural landscapes was revolutionary. They broke the rules, put aside social constraints, and found their own 'voice'. I apply this philosophy to fashion and design, encouraging women to find their own beauty and style. Plein Air Design celebrates authentic and uncontrived natural beauty and brings that aesthetic to fashion, home decor, and lifestyle.

Plein Air Design is me, Janet (fashion designer, fashion historian, textiles buff for 30+years), my four talented children (all growing into fabulous adults), and my husband (offering invaluable tech support).
